Four people hospitalized after a stolen four-wheel drive vehicle cause a three-car accident in Hillcrest

Two people were arrested after a stolen car crashed into two other vehicles in northeast Adelaide on Thursday afternoon.

Important points:

  • A stolen Toyota Prado crashed into two other cars at an intersection in Adelaide this afternoon
  • The passenger in the Prado ran away and was followed by relatives who held the man until the police arrived
  • Four people, including the driver of the Prado, were taken to the hospital

Police spotted a black Toyota Prado with unassigned license plates on Oxford Street in Hillcrest around 2:30 p.m., but the driver refused to stop.

Seconds later, the Prado, which was reported stolen from Norwood on November 17, crashed into a Mazda sedan and station wagon at the intersection of Patricia Avenue and North East Road.

The alleged driver of the Prado was arrested, but the passenger ran away and was followed by citizens who held him on a nearby street until the police arrived.

The alleged driver, a 39-year-old Edwardstown woman, was admitted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital injured in the accident.

In the other vehicles, too, three people with minor injuries were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The passenger, a 40-year-old taperoo man, and the Edwardstown woman were both arrested and charged with illegal use.

Police said the woman would also be charged with police prosecution, dangerous driving injury, disqualification from driving, driving with unassigned license plates and drug driving.

Police said both people would be denied bail and would appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Traffic on North East Road was blocked while emergency services were on site and all three vehicles were towed.
