Juniper Research: Mobility-as-a-Service to replace 2.2 billion private car journeys by 2025; Driven by public-private partnerships

BASINGSTOKE, England – (BUSINESS WIRE) – A new study by Juniper Research found that MaaS (Mobility-as-a-Service) will displace over 2.2 billion private car journeys by 2025; Increase from 471 million in 2021. The concept of MaaS involves providing end-to-end multimodal travel services through a single platform that allows users to find the best route and price in real time according to traffic conditions and demand.

The study identified government investments in public transport and publicly run partnerships between MaaS providers and transport companies as key factors for consumer adoption over the next four years. However, it has been suggested that the need for mobile devices and internet connectivity will limit adoption to developed regions. As a result, she predicts that by 2025, over 70% of these displaced trips will be in Europe and the Far East.

MaaS supposed to disrupt travel ecosystems Dis

The new report Mobility-as-a-Service: Business Models, Vendor Strategies & Market Forecasts 2021-2027 assumes that as the pandemic subsides, providers of MaaS solutions should see the increasing demand for travel as an opportunity, the established transport offer to disrupt ecosystems by demonstrating the cost effectiveness and efficiency of their platforms.

Research author Adam Wears stated, “As travel returns to normal, solution providers must try to maximize the value of their services by offering as many modes of transportation as possible through their platforms. Therefore, signing partnerships to maximize the value of their MaaS offering must be given the highest priority. ‘

Significant benefits for the environment

By displacing a high volume of car traffic, MaaS will also save 14 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2025; Increase of 3 million tons in 2021. However, the report predicted that increasing electrification of private taxis and buses will be essential to realize this growth in reducing CO2 emissions over the next 4 years. To achieve this, she called on government agencies to invest increasingly in electrification technologies in order to accelerate acceptance among public transport operators in order to benefit from lower-emission vehicles sooner.
