All lanes of the M62 going west are closed after a serious collision.
The collision took place between junction 22 (Denshaw) and 21 (Milnrow) of the motorway.
Police tweeted that the incident involved five or six vehicles.
The full statement from the officers read: “M62 J22 to J21 Westbound. We have a report on a 5/6 Vehicle RTC.
“All lanes are closed.
“The police and the highways are on their way.”

Diversions
- Head west, exit the M62 at Junction 22, and proceed to the junction at the end of the ramp.
- At the intersection, turn left onto the A672 and continue on this road for about 5 km until the intersection with the A640.
- At the intersection, turn right onto the A640 and continue on this road for about 5 km to the A6193 roundabout.
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit A6193 and drive on this road for approx. 500 m to the intersection with the M62 motorway (exit 21).
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit to return to the M62 West.

Highway to the west closed to clean up major oil spill
A statement from Highways England said:
The M62 to the west is closed between J22 and J21 in order to remove a large amount of oil and diesel after a collision of several vehicles.
Emergency services are in use.
In the run-up to this closure, delays are to be expected, and additional travel times are also to be expected on the diversion route. “

Motorists warned of “likely” delays
Transport for Greater Manchester warns drivers that delays in the region are “likely” – and advises drivers to look for alternative routes first.
