Man attacked after a car was set on fire in a premeditated attack captured by camera

A man has been charged after a car was intentionally set on fire in a Scottish street.

Firefighters rushed to the dramatic scene on Main Street, Calderbank at around 10.25pm ​​on Thursday 20th January.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) immediately dispatched a fire truck to the area and the firefighters were caught on camera extinguishing the flames.

A 35-year-old man has now been charged in connection with premeditated arson and vehicle theft, according to Police Scotland.

Police added that a 21-year-old woman was charged with traffic offences.

Both have since been released to appear in Airdrie Sheriff Court on Friday February 18, 2022.

An SFRS spokesman said: “We were alerted at 10.31pm on Thursday 20 January to reports of a fire in a vehicle in Main Street, Calderbank.

“The operations management immediately mobilized a fire engine to the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers were called around 10.25pm ​​on Thursday 20 January 2022 to a report of a vehicle fire in Main Street, Calderbank.

“A 35-year-old man has been charged in connection with premeditated arson and vehicle theft, and a 21-year-old woman has been charged in connection with traffic offences.

“Both were released to appear in Airdrie Sheriff Court on February 18, 2022.”
