Motorists warned after car was swept away in Vale of Glamorgan in high tide

South Wales Police have warned motorists to avoid flooded roads after a car was swept away in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Torrential rains this week have resulted in flash floods in many parts of Wales, with the Met Office extending a yellow weather warning of heavy rain until Monday (November 1st).

A picture shared by the South Wales Police Vale of Glamorgan shows a vehicle almost completely submerged in flood near the town of St Brides Major.

“#CAUTION Motorists are reminded to avoid flooded roads, especially in the Vale of Glamorgan,” the police wrote. “Flooded vehicle near #StBridesMajor.”

Police added that the driver survived the ordeal.

“Fortunately, the driver is safe and well,” they tweeted.

Nearly four inches of rain were forecast for Friday in some parts of Wales, with tourist traffic disrupted in many areas and significant delays for the M4.

In some parts of the country, a month of rain fell in less than 18 hours. Another 30 mm is forecast for the coming days, with the torrential rain showing no signs of slowing down.

The Met Office warned of “heavy rain, which in places will lead to floods and disruptions”.

“Bus and rail travel is likely to be affected by longer travel times,” she added, noting that “splashes and flooding” are likely to have a detrimental effect on travel times as well.

By Sunday, the southeast and Cardiff are expected to be hardest hit. Until Monday, the rain is expected to hit mostly north Wales.
