This installation is hot on the heels of the Electric Vehicle Association Northern Ireland (EVANI), which represents drivers, and reports to Stormont’s infrastructure committee that the number of defective chargers across Northern Ireland is making people less inclined to switch to electric cars. This prompts almost 60% of motorists to consider returning to gasoline or diesel vehicles due to the poor state of the country’s charging infrastructure.
The main customer benefit of the chosen Triex EV charger is that there is no need to download an app. Users simply come to the charger, plug in their charging cable, select the time or value for which they want to charge, tap the front of the device with their bank card, mobile phone or alternatively with chip and PIN to pay.
The funds are immediately debited from the customer’s bank account and deposited into the bank account of the property manager, who is responsible for paying for the landlord’s meter supply.
The system is fully monitored using a remote back office system, with any changes or updates being applied remotely.
This simple but effective process will have mass appeal, according to Mark McGillion, Managing Director of Triex EV.
Mark explained, “These electric vehicle chargers make life easier for everyone. Previously, landlords who provided electric chargers included the cost of electricity in the total administration fee that was paid by all tenants, whether they used the chargers or not.
“That was not an attractive offer and led to a lot of complaints. Our chargers are extremely practical, as residents and visitors simply pay immediately and only for the charge they have used. “
The benefits have also caught the attention of Invest NI, who signed Triex EV Limited as its first EV company, as well as other businesses that also see the value of this pioneering technology.
Mr. McGillion continued, “Since installing this device, we have had an surge in inquiries from business owners, property developers and specialty retailers who see the value of these types of chargers.
“The main selling point is that they bill each user separately using a key fob or card with an RFI code, as well as a pay-as-you-charge feature for visitors using their debit or credit card. Individual tariffs can be set at the request of the site owner and in any currency.
“This is the most convenient way to provide EV charging. We have installed this type of charger in England and Scotland and it’s great to see them here in Northern Ireland.
“We know we still have a long way to go in terms of EV infrastructure to catch up with other countries, but we believe this is a positive step in the right direction.”
Northern Ireland currently has around 4,700 electric vehicles, which is below the 15,000 it should currently have to meet government goals.
EVANI’s Mark McCall added: “We welcome all public and private investments in EVANI charging for electric vehicles.
“Our members love their electric vehicles and upgrading the infrastructure to support their growing numbers is critical in the transition to sustainable transport.”
