In Brentwood, environmentally friendly, pay-as-you-go cars were introduced.
Residents can rent cars from three hybrid and electric vehicles stationed in locations across Brentwood, Essex through a national car sharing program – Co Wheels.
Hourly rates are described as starting from £ 5.50 and city councils say it is a “low cost” and “environmentally friendly” way to travel in Brentwood.

Environment, Enforcement and Housing Committee Chair Cllr Maria Pearson said, “These eco-friendly cars are a flexible way to travel around Brentwood and they are very affordable with hourly rates starting at £ 5.50.
“This is part of the Brentwood Borough Council’s green initiative to promote a clean, safe, and environmentally friendly place to live, work and visit. I’m excited to be launching this program.”
One of the Co Share vehicles is near the Hainault tube station and the other two are in the center of Brentwood.

Co Wheels says it is taking additional cleaning measures to protect vehicle users during the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the company, every vehicle is regularly and professionally cleaned and all contact surfaces are cleaned once a month with a new disinfectant that keeps the surfaces germ-free for up to 30 days.
