Emergency services were called at 7 p.m. last night about the two car crash on Hillside Road, Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen said.

He said the driver, a young woman, had her restricted driver’s license and had six passengers in a four-seat car.

She crashed into another car at an intersection.

One person who was in the trunk of the overloaded car was rushed to hospital with moderate to minor injuries.

It comes just days after five teenagers were killed when an overloaded car hit a power pole with such force that the car was split in two.

Police have named the group, all between 15 and 16 years old, Javarney Drummond, Andrew Goodger, Niko Hill, Joseff McCarthy and Jack Wallace.

They were driving an overloaded car on the northern edge of Timaru when it crashed into a power pole on Saturday evening – split in half and hurled debris down the street.

The driver, a 19 year old, was the only survivor. He remained in Timaru Hospital in a serious but stable condition and had not yet been approached by the police.
