People are frightened when the car explodes in an alleged arson attack early in the morning

People were shocked after a car was set on fire in an alleged arson attack in the early hours of the morning.

One woman described hearing an explosion, then walking outside to find a burning vehicle near the intersection of Mona Road and Fields New Road in Chadderton, Oldham.

The police consider the fire to be arson and assume that no one was injured in the incident.

Helen Ward, 32, a resident of Mona Road, said, “Around midnight I heard a bang while watching TV.

“At first I thought a car had crashed into something, but when I looked out the window I could smell something burning.

“I went outside to look and saw the car on fire.

“The fire brigade came and put everything out and the police were there. This is the second time it has happened on this street.

“It’s very scary, especially since it’s the second time. Fortunately my children are gone, but the street is full of families and it could have been much worse if the bushes and other cars had caught fire too. “

A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police Department said: “Just before noon this morning (Friday, Nov.

“The rescue service was on duty and the fire was safely extinguished.

“The officers are treating the fire as arson. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

“No injuries were reported.”
