Police car involved in accident with car blocking Ashton Old Road

An accident involving a police car and a white car closed a busy main road in Manchester until the early hours of Monday morning.

The Beswick incident resulted in Ashton Old Road being closed at the junction with the A6010 Alan Turing Way.

Police, fire brigade and ambulance service were on site.

The police blocked the road while the crews monitored the two vehicles.

While the details of the crash are not clear, a police car was seen lying on the side of the median of the street.

Further along the street, at a pedestrian crossing, a white car was positioned so that its rear and bumper faced the sidewalks on either side of the street. The front of the vehicle was badly damaged.

The incident affected both directions of the road, with debris spreading across the two lanes.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) reported in a tweet on Monday morning at 1:10 a.m. that the road had been closed and urged motorists to look for alternative routes.

Rescue workers were on site

In a later tweet at 1:47 a.m., TfGM said the street was open again.

At the time of writing, Greater Manchester Police were unavailable for comment and it is currently unknown if any injuries have occurred.
