Police investigate car that was set on fire in Lanarkshire village while residents were sleeping inside

Two men deliberately set fire to a car parked in the driveway of a Lanarkshire house while residents slept in it.

They were seen driving towards Bell Grove in Law before torching the vehicle and then running away.

The police are looking for witnesses to the incident on Sunday, Sept.

It happened between midnight and 12:15 p.m.

The fire brigade rushed to the scene and put out the fire, which caused considerable damage to the target vehicle.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Police say they saw through CCTV that a dark car was driving on Waterlands Road to the Bell Grove intersection before stopping.

Then two men took to the street in the direction of the property, while a third stranger stayed with the car.

Police officer Iain Denholm from Lanark Police Station said: “The vehicle was parked in a driveway near the property where the inmates slept.

“If the fire had spread to the house, the consequences could have been far more severe.

“Our investigations are ongoing and I would like to ask anyone who has observed suspicious activity in the area between Saturday, May 22nd, 11:45 pm through Sunday, 12.20pm, to contact us.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101 and quote the 0110 incident of May 23, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
