Road closed after car crashed into river near Midhurst and driver airlifted to hospital – recap

A road was closed for several hours after a car went into a river near Midhurst. The driver of the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.

The accident, which took place earlier today (March 21), caused significant delays as recovery work took place. It occurred between the A272 Easebourne Lane, Easebourne, and Lambert’s Lane, Midhurst.

Emergency services attended the scene, with South East Coast Ambulance Service and fire crews assisting one casualty from the river and rescuing another from the vehicle.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Royal Sussex County Hospital in a serious condition. The passenger, who was assisted from the river and was the only other person in the car, was assessed and treated before being discharged at the scene.

The A286 North Street was closed for several hours, and motorists were advised to find an alternative route, with the nearest being via Woolbeding. Stagecoach South also confirmed delays to their usual services, with many unable to serve Midhurst.
