Six teenage girls die in collision between car and lorry in Oklahoma | U.S. News

Six high school students have been killed in a collision between two vehicles in southern Oklahoma, police have said.

The teenagers, all girls, were in a car that collided with an articulated lorry at about 12.30pm in Tishomingo, about 100 miles (161km) southwest of Oklahoma City.

Tishomingo Public Schools superintendent Bobby Waitman said the students attended the local high school.

Mr Waitman said: “Our hearts are broken, and we are grieving with our students and staff”.

He added that counselors were available to speak with students.

Sarah Stewart, spokesperson for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, said she did not have details of the collision or the exact ages of the students.

The incident took place at the intersection of Highway 377, 22 and 99 in Johnston County, according to the Johnston County Oklahoma Sheriff’s Office.

Images from the scene of the crash showed a virtually destroyed black vehicle with what appeared to be a pink steering wheel among the rubble.

Tishomingo, a town of about 3,000, is in the south-central part of Oklahoma.
