Five people were flown from their boat in the Isles of Scilly when Storm Evert swept the southwest, causing campers in Cornwall to retreat to their cars during a night of stormy winds.
The Falmouth Coast Guard said it had responded to more than 20 incidents off the Isles of Scilly that saw many people rescued from their yachts. The southwest was covered by an amber warning until noon yesterday during the former summer storm.
Falmouth Coast Guard Paddy Cochran said St. Mary’s and Sennen’s lifeboats had been on duty all night and the crews were “exhausted”.
