The city that pays motorists £ 3,000 to drop off their cars | news

ÖOver the past five months, Juliette Richards and her husband Adair have sometimes regretted their environmental decision to take their second car to the junkyard and rely on just one vehicle. On the other hand, they also have several thousand reasons to celebrate.

The couple are part of the government’s first experiment to wean the nation from its auto addiction. They were among 147 successful applicants willing to give up their vehicle in exchange for a £ 3,000 grant loaded onto a card that can be used to pay for transportation services as part of a taxpayer-funded process in Coventry of £ 1 million.

Previously, the couple thought it would be immoderate to pay for an Uber or car sharing service.
