Engineers modernizing tram tracks in Croydon were embroiled in a happy escape when a car driven at speed crashed into the stop they were working on.
The crash occurred at the Addiscombe tram stop in the early hours of April 3, and an explosion occurred when the vehicle crashed onto the tram rails.
A witness said, “A car crashed on a tram line while workers were doing tram work.
“I heard what sounded like an explosion and then a lady screaming for help. As far as I know, nobody hurt. “
Met police confirmed at around 2:10 a.m. Saturday that officers in Croydon saw a vehicle driving at high speed prior to the collision.
The car was found abandoned after the accident after colliding with barriers at the tram stop on Lower Addiscombe Road.
