Two men arrested after series of car thefts in Coventry

Police have arrested two men following a rise in car crime in the Stoke area of ​​Coventry.

The two men, aged 27 and 43, were arrested during an overnight patrol on Villiers Street on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was previously identified by police as a potential suspect in car thefts in the area.

Officers then searched a home and found a number of items they suspect were stolen from vehicles, including golf clubs and two bicycles.

In a post on their Facebook page, Coventry Police said: “We had noticed an increase in thefts from vehicles and in response earlier this week we assembled a team of officers to conduct night patrols.

“It paid dividends as we stopped and arrested two men on Villiers Street on Tuesday night, including a 27-year-old man whom we had already identified as a potential suspect.

“We searched a home and found a pile of items including a set of golf clubs, a motorized golf cart and two bicycles that we suspect were stolen from vehicles.

“We look at the criminal reports to determine where the items came from. The two men, the other aged 43, have been released as part of the investigation while we conduct further investigations.

“You can help us fight car crime.

“A lot of vehicular crime is committed by opportunistic thieves trying to take advantage of unlocked cars and vans.”
