WATCH: Police dog Pancho chases perpetrators after chase

VIDEO footage has been released showing the moment a police dog chased a man as he tried to escape from the police.

PD Pancho and handler PC Dan Benton were called to Gracewell Road in Birmingham this morning (July 19) at around 1am after a man got out of a car that had not previously been thought to be a traffic patrol.

It was followed for 10 minutes as it drove in the wrong direction on one-way streets and skipped red lights – but stalled when West Midlands Police “stabbed” its tires.

The driver tried to escape, but PD Pancho lunged and held the man before he was arrested, the dramatic incident being captured with the thermal imaging camera on board the police helicopter.

Pancho’s supervisor, PC Benton, said, “It was pitch black and there were plenty of bushes for the suspect to hide in, but that didn’t stop Pancho. She was immediately on the trail and managed to hold on to the man quickly. ”

Two-year-old Belgian Malinois is aptly named after one of the troop’s former detectives, DC Andrew Taylor, who was known as Pancho and who passed away in 2018.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to stop the police and drug driving.
