We Buy Any Car workers offered the woman a “better offer” if she made it “worthwhile”

A 26-year-old woman says a We Buy Any Car employee offered her a “better deal” if she could make it “worthwhile”.

Harley Gambetta said she took her car for a review but was offered less than she’d hoped for her Citroen C1, so she left the store to consider her options.

She claims she was later inundated with calls from an unknown number, followed by text messages explaining that it was the We Buy Any Car employee from the West Sussex store.

The news took a turn, with the man allegedly asking if she would like to meet and offering to make Harley a “better deal” if “you make it worthwhile for me,” reports Der Spiegel.

Harley, an administrative clerk, said, “It was really a little strange. I went there to make an offer and it was less than I wanted, but I wasn’t upset or really interested.

“I said I would let her know, and then he kept calling, like two or three times. Then I got all these texts and calls.

“He said he would get me better deal if it was worth it – what kind of person thinks someone will come back for better deal?”

Harley said the We Buy Any Car reviewer’s location at Burgess Hill, near Brighton, is quite remote and it would have been dark when she arrived when she returned.

Harley said the man called and texted them repeatedly after their interaction

She continued, “I’m afraid to think what would have happened if I were naive enough to meet him because I thought I would make a better offer.

“The whole episode dragged on for three or four days and made me really nervous. It was a strange thing.

“There have been about half a dozen calls in all, and the suggestion that I get more money by making it worthwhile for him is hideous.

“As a young woman, I wanted to warn others about this guy’s behavior because there is so much terrible stuff going on these days.”

Harley reported the incident to We Buy Any Car, which opened an investigation, but she said she was still concerned as the man knew her address and obtained her private information from online records.

She continued, “I reported him and We Buy Any Car wasn’t great, they just said sorry and they would fix it.

“I had just moved out with my boyfriend this week and I felt really scared, I told them – because he saw my shape and knew where I lived, but they didn’t care.

“It was just a little weird, I’m not really angry – I just find it a little weird. It’s not normal whether I’ve been to a nightclub or not, he works for a well-known company – I would never be so sure to believe that someone would come back for a better deal. “

A We Buy Any Car spokesperson said: “The person in question had only been employed by webuyanycar.com for a few weeks at the time of the allegations.

“After an immediate investigation, the employee was fired for gross misconduct. We do not condone the actions he has taken and those actions do not represent the rest of our team.

“We apologize wholeheartedly to Ms. Gambetta for her experience.”
