Week of multiple car accidents in Worcestershire

SEVERAL car accidents have occurred in Worcestershire this week in which emergency services have been called for multiple incidents.

There were six major car accidents in the Worcester area this week, with a total of three fatalities, and one man died shortly after a collision.

The crash will raise fears that there could be a surge in collisions in the county, as it did after lockdown restrictions were lifted last summer.

A motorcyclist died in a fatal accident on Thursday (July 9th) on the A44 Evesham Road in Pershore. A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “On arrival we found three patients. The motorcyclist, a man, was in critical condition and was treated here by an off-duty nurse and a firefighter when we arrived

Two lanes were closed on the M5 southbound after an accident on Monday (July 5th). The closings resulted in significant delays as West Mercia police were present to assist traffic officials. The drivers were delayed by 50 minutes as lanes two and three between junction 6 and 7 to the south were closed. You can read this here

Another crash occurred on Friday (July 9) on the M5 after an accident heading north near junction 6 of the A4538 Pershore Lane caused major traffic jams. Motorists experienced almost three hours of delays when motorway officials asked drivers to “please avoid if possible”. You can read that here

A cyclist was hospitalized this week after a collision on the A449 Powick roundabout. The accident on Thursday (July 8th) involved a car and a bicycle, with West Mercia police urging motorists to avoid the area due to possible delays. West Midlands Ambulance said, “We were called at 9:44 am to report a collision on the A449 roundabout in Powick. We sent an ambulance to the scene of the accident and upon arrival the crew found a patient, a woman who had been injured. ”You can read more about it here

The same roundabout was the scene of another crash on Friday (July 9th). West Mercia posted on Twitter: “Worcester: A4440. Reports of an RTC between the Powick Roundabout (A4440 / A449) and the Rushwick Roundabout (Bransford Road). 999 crews on site and in the public are currently helping directing traffic.” Paramedics treated an injured person on site. Firefighters were called to Tybridge Retail Park on Hylton Road at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 8th, after a man was injured in a collision with three cars. Paramedics and West Mercia Police were also present. At 1:45 p.m., the firefighters left the scene. Here you can read more about it
