Woman taken to hospital after three car crash that closed A12 for hours

A woman has been taken to hospital following a three-car crash on the A12 yesterday (March 28). It comes after the road was closed for roughly four hours as emergency services attended and recovery work took place.

The accident was first reported in updates from INRIX travel service soon after 2pm. Essex County Council traffic news account then confirmed three cars had been involved in the collision.

The incident closed the A12 southbound and led to traffic queues for roughly four to five miles from Mountnessing to Margaretting. INRIX also reported slow traffic on the northbound side due to onlookers.

A spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a road traffic collision on the southbound A12 between junction 12 to junction 13 just before 2.15pm yesterday (Monday, March 28). An ambulance was sent to the scene and transported a woman to Queen’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

One lane briefly reopened but was closed again shortly after. The road reopened and traffic cleared around 6.30pm.
