Woman vomits in shock after a tree falls on her car as she drives near school

One woman shivered and was in “absolute shock” after a tree suddenly fell on her car while she was driving.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, was driving down Warrington Road in Rainhill at around 5 p.m. Monday when she saw a tree begin to fall across the street.

The driver informed the ECHO that, despite emergency braking, she was unable to stop in time to prevent the tree from falling on her car and causing damage and scratches on one side as well as on the bonnet and roof.

Emergency services and police were on site and the road was closed until later that evening.

The woman said she was not injured but was “shaking” after the incident and praised neighbors who rushed out of their homes to help her.

She told the ECHO, “I was just driving down the street, passed the elementary school and headed for the secondary school.

“It was around 5pm and I saw a tree a few meters in front of me that was going to topple over. I immediately started my emergency stop routine, but since it was only a few meters, I was unable to stop in time.

“It was a really nice day, it wasn’t windy or anything, so I wasn’t expecting a tree to fall.

“As soon as the tree hit me, the residents came out of the adjacent street and offered me support and called all the emergency services. Everyone came out and made sure I was fine and that was really very nice.

The driver said they had been left in “absolute shock”.

“I was in an absolute state of shock. I was shaking, I was throwing up in the ambulance, and it was scary.

“I was so lucky that there were people who came and helped me. You were absolutely great.

The driver said she has since recovered but is still afraid to drive down the same stretch of road and warned others to “be on their guard”.

It could have been a tragic scenario if it had been two hours earlier than the kids left school for the day.

In a statement released today, Merseyside Police Department said: “We can confirm that we received a report of a fallen tree in Rainhill on Monday June 7th.

“At around 5 p.m., ambulance services were called to Warrington Road after a tree reportedly fell from Loyola Hall onto a white Volkswagen T-Roc.

“The owner of the car, a woman around 30, was in the vehicle at the time of the incident. She was uninjured, but remained shaken and was supported on site by rescue workers.

“The road was closed after the incident, but opened again shortly before 6 p.m.

“This matter is now being investigated by the Matrix Roads Policing Unit.”

North West Ambulance informed ECHO that they were visiting the scene and that no one needed hospital treatment.

A local Facebook page wrote, “To the lady who innocently drove outside my house this afternoon and a giant tree from Rainhill Hall fell on her car. Somebody overlooked you.

“It was such a relief to see you get out of the ambulance. Take care of yourself xx “
