A pensioner in her 70s hit by a car, when the driver escapes and then calls the police

A woman in her 70s was hit by a driver who then fled the scene.

Residents nearby reported “many flashing blue lights” after the pedestrian was hit by a car in Maghull yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

At 5:20 p.m., rescue workers were called to the crime scene at the intersection of Green Lane and Shop Lane.

The section of road near the roundabout was closed while the crews tended to the injured man. Her condition is currently unknown.

A Merseyside Police Department spokesman said, “The pedestrian, who is over 70 years old, was rushed to the hospital.

“The driver of the car is said to have left the scene of the accident after the collision.

“A male motorist from the Maghull area contacted the police shortly afterwards and is said to be questioned by officers in connection with the incident.”
