A12: Armed police and dog units chase cars on A12 after alleged shooting

Armed police and canine units swarmed over the A12 last night after reports of an Essex shootout.

Essex Police received reports yesterday afternoon that a man was shot dead on Beach Road in Jaywick (Friday 2nd July).

At around 2.15 p.m., firearm units were sent to the scene with unarmed officers from Tendring, but no suspects or weapons could be found.

A car linked to the incident was later seen on the A12, resulting in a pursuit by Essex police.

A stinger device was used and the car was penned in by officers.

A helicopter was also called in to support the ground crews and dog units, and a weapon – which turned out to be an air force – was recovered near where the car was stopped in the bushes.
