Bargain hunters preparing for the return of trunk sales

Car boot enthusiasts prepare for the biggest bargain hunt of the year.

Lockdown restrictions have resulted in none of the regular car boots taking place in North Lincolnshire. With restrictions easing on Monday, auto boots can restart in the field next to Morrisons in Laceby, Oaklands and Louth, among others.

Hemswell Market near Gainsborough is slated to open on April 18th.

Grimsby auctioneer and magistrate George Horton said his auction next to Louth Cattle Market will reopen for viewing on Friday April 16 at 10am. The auction takes place on Saturday.

You could even make a little more money.

He said, “We missed customers terribly. The situation was that we were allowed to reopen in September but we couldn’t do it safely due to social distancing guidelines. It’s been so long.

He expects Louth’s trunk to resume in June.

He added, “During the lockdown, people were clearing sheds, garages, lofts, and clearing their homes. It has produced some real gems. People often forget about the things they were hiding.

“We couldn’t bring things in, but we helped the police by clearing their stores of objects.

“People are going to be all too keen to look for bargains again. Every week I’ve received calls from people planning to sell their wares and wanting to know when to come in.”

“A woman called because she was desperate to get rid of her husband for the weekend when we were open!

“Most people just want to reconnect and enjoy the camaraderie and return to a kind of normalcy.”

George said, “There will be a lot of bargains and we have a lot of inventory. People will be looking for some bobs to raise the family income. I think auctions and car boots will be pretty busy once we reopen.”

He said there will be a wide variety of items including mobility scooters, furniture and tools. He has a 60-inch television screen, Claud Butler and Carrera drive at his auction next to the livestock market near Linden Walk, Louth.

“We have a few puzzles that people are going to snap up so that they have something for the next ban,” he added.
