Car hits bollards and barely avoids pub in crash in Newport

The aftermath of the Newport crash

Three fire engines and an ambulance were brought to Newport after the crash on Thursday’s lunch break.

When they got there, they found a Mercedes hitting bollards outside the Shakespeare Inn in Upper Bar.

At the time, there were four women in the car, but no one was seriously injured or trapped in the tailgate.

Firemen from Telford Central and Wellington used hoists to get the car to a safe location.

The fire brigade sent an alarm message at 1:13 p.m.

Local residents responded to the accident on the All About Newport Facebook page, on which a contributor wrote, “Fortunately, no one was injured and the shake was not damaged when it hit the bollard right before x.”

This was confirmed by the pub, which did not want to comment on it.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said, “We were called for reports of a car that crashed into the Shakespeare Inn in Newport’s Upper Bar at 12:45 with an ambulance and paramedic on the scene.

“On arrival we discovered four occupants of the car, all women. They were all examined and could be discharged on site with minor or no injuries.”
