Car on the side of a cordoned off road after a serious accident in Bolton

Fire, police and ambulance services are hit by a serious traffic accident on the outskirts of Bolton city center.

Ambulance vehicles were messed up after a collision with two vehicles shortly after 6 p.m. on Marsden Road at the junction with Spa Road, Deansgate and Moor Lane.

A police spokesman confirmed that the incident was ongoing. One woman was admitted to the hospital although it is not known how severe her injuries are.

Pictures show the road, which is cordoned off with a large number of police vehicles.

Witnesses at the scene say two cars were involved in the collision, with photos showing a vehicle on its side.

Police on Marsden Road, Bolton

A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “A fire truck from the Bolton Central Fire Department (just yards away) arrived quickly and firefighters helped keep the area safe.

“Two women were examined on site by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and one was later taken to hospital.

“GMFRS crews were there for about 40 minutes.”

Marsden Road is part of the inner ring around Bolton city center.

At least two serious traffic accidents have occurred there in the last six years.
