Charles in the hydrogen-powered car

The Prince of Wales was spinning in a hydrogen-powered car while visiting an eco-vehicle company.

Heir to the throne Charles was behind the wheel of the light green Rasa on Tuesday when he visited Riversimple in Llandrindod Wells.

During a test drive with the two-seater, Charles heard how the Rasa only emits pure water vapor and, with its low weight, thin tires and high regenerative braking effect, is designed to minimize particles from tires and brakes.

It has a range of 300 miles and is billed as “easy to use, responsive and fun to drive” with a “quick 0-60 mph in 9.7 seconds”.

Known for his green credentials, the prince was pictured grinning as he stepped out of the aerodynamic car after opening its sleek, high-tech butterfly doors.

Riversimple builds rasas for testing with the general public, both in Monmouthshire, where they have installed a tanker in Abergavenny town center, and in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire.

It is the first in a line of vehicles, including a light commercial vehicle and a family vehicle, that the company plans to offer its customers on a subscription basis.

Charles ran his annual weeklong summer tour to Wales.
