Chorley Old Road B6226 has been closed in both directions at the intersection of Avenue Street.
Eyewitnesses report that two cars collided shortly before 6 p.m.
The red Opel Astra, which remains in the middle of the street inside the police line, was badly damaged
A police cordon is now in place, and a red Opel Corsa is still parked in the middle of the cordon with the hazard warning lights on. Significant property damage was caused to the vehicle.
An eyewitness said there was a collision followed by “an argument between two men”.
Three police vehicles and several officers remain on site and divert the traffic.

A spokesman for Transport for Greater Manchester said: “There is an ongoing police incident on the B6226 Chorley Old Road.
“The street is closed in both directions at the intersection of Avenue Street. Please take an alternate route.”
The Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for further information.
