Man, 59, dies after collision with car in Chadderton

A man died after a collision with a car, the police said.

Emergency services were called to Broadway in Chadderton, Oldham, just after 10 p.m. Friday.

Greater Manchester police said they followed reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

Firefighters were also on site.

The police confirmed on Saturday morning that a 59-year-old man was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

He wasn’t named.

The police said the investigation was ongoing.

The collision is believed to have occurred near the intersection of Eaves Lane near The Sportsman pub.

Greater Manchester Police issued a statement calling on witnesses to report.

Police said: “A man died in a collision in Oldham.

“On October 8, 2021 at around 10:05 p.m., officers were called to report a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Broadway, Chadderton.

“The North West Ambulance Service was also present, but unfortunately a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Anyone with information should call the Serious Collision Investigation Department on 0161 856 4741 and report the 3345 incident dated 8/10/21.

“Information can also be reported online or via the live chat facility at www.gmp.police.uk.

“If you can’t report online, call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Further details were not revealed.

The road from Whitegate Lane to Newman RC College was closed for several hours to conduct accident investigations.

There was no access to Broadway from Foxdenton Lane or Eaves Lane, and buses were also diverted.
