Man seriously injured in car accident 15 meters down the Bridgnorth embankment

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday at the intersection of the A458 and Ludlow Roads.

It was a car that collided with street furniture before leaving the street and tumbling down an embankment about 15 meters, trapping the driver.

Firefighters used cutting and spreading equipment and worked with paramedics to remove the vehicle’s roof and driver’s door and rescue the man who was being rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched a community first responder, two ambulances, a paramedic, and the MERIT [medical emergency response intervention team] Accident doctor and intensive care physician on site.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said, “Crews arrived at the scene and found the car had driven about 15 meters down the embankment with the driver, a man, still trapped in the vehicle.

“The fire brigade colleagues were working on removing the roof and driver’s door from the car so that the crew could safely assess the patient.

“The man was treated on site for potentially serious injuries and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with flashing lights and sirens with the MERIT team on board.”

The Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service dispatched two units including the rescue tender and crews from the Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Wellington fire stations. An operations officer was also present.

West Mercia Police were on hand and closed the street until around 3 a.m.
