Man slumped with gun and knife found in stolen car

A man is behind bars after being caught with a gun and knife in a stolen car.

John Stuart, 30, was found slumped in a Mercedes-Benz B180 in Lanarks St Teiling, South Lanarkshire, on April 4 this year.

An attempt was made to wake him up before the police finally managed to wake him up.

Prosecutor Alex Sutherland told the High Court in Glasgow that there was a black pistol on “open display” in the vehicle.

The gun turned out to be a self-loading pistol and it was inoperative.

There were five Luger bullets in the gun.

Mr. Sutherland said: “Stuart did not have a gun license.”

The Mercedes was also found to have incorrect license plates.

The attorney’s assistant added, “It was stolen from Drymen Road in Bearsden (in East Dunbartonshire).”

On Monday, Stuart pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including possession of the gun and ammunition and backing up the car.

Lord Mulholland said to him: “I need background reports on you. You will be taken into custody. “

Stuart is sentenced next month.
