Motorist, 28, dead in collision with towing vehicle near Richmond

Ottawa police say a person is dead after a collision between a car and a train in Richmond, in rural southwest Ottawa.

The clash occurred shortly after noon near the intersection of Barnsdale and Eagleson Streets, police said.

The 28-year-old driver of the car died of injuries at the scene, according to a police tweet.

Police have closed Barnsdale Road from Eagleson Road to Twin Elm Road and Eagleson Road from Ottawa Street to Perth Street while the investigation continues.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is sending a team to investigate the collision, according to a press release from the organization.

Via Rail tweeted Wednesday afternoon that one of their trains was involved in the collision and said no Via Rail passengers or employees were injured.

VIA Rail # 53 was involved in a collision with a level crossing near Richmond, ON at 12:16 p.m. Passengers or VIA Rail employees were not injured. More information will follow as we work to get passengers to their final destinations.
