Pedestrian taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Newport city center

A pedestrian was hospitalized after being hit by a car in a city center.

Ambulance services were called to a traffic collision on Queensway in Newport city center at around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said the incident involved a male pedestrian and a car.

A spokesman for the service said two fast-reacting vehicles, an ambulance and an emergency doctor were on site.

A male patient was taken to Wales University Hospital, Cardiff, for treatment, but ambulance services were unable to provide details of his condition.

The ambulance service announced that paramedics had left the scene around 9:30 p.m.

Eyewitnesses said the road was blocked in one direction to the Old Green Roundabout while police officers and paramedics dealt with the incident on Saturday night.

WalesOnline contacted Gwent police again on Saturday evening and Sunday, but police said they could not provide any information.
