Plans for 1,500 new electric car chargers in four years at new Osprey charging hubs

Osprey Charging announced a big boost to UK electric vehicle infrastructure with plans to build a brand new network of charging stations in key locations across the country.

150 new fast charging stations with up to 12 chargers at each location mean a total of 1,500 new charging places for drivers. The chargers have a maximum output of 150-175 kWh, so electric car drivers will be able to add 100 miles of extra range to their batteries in just 10 minutes, the company says.

The hubs will also be close to shopping and snack options, with the first four locations already under construction near retailers like Costa, Lidl, Adli, KFC and PC World. The first is slated to open in Wolverhampton next month, with ten slated to open this year alone. All 150 hubs will be open by 2025.

Osprey says its new Kempower charging technology is key to the rollout as it allows more EVs to be connected in a single location without compromising charging performance or requiring expensive grid connections. “The technology has the potential to revolutionize the delivery of electric vehicles in the UK through intelligent load balancing to maximize the amount of charge each vehicle receives,” it said. This means that all vehicles connected to the hub can be charged with their maximum charging current without affecting other cars.

“All Osprey chargers are compatible with all fast-charging EVs on the market today and do not require a membership or subscription to start charging – drivers can simply tap their contactless bank card or smartphone,” the company says.
