Plymouth residents evacuated following car fire near Barcode – updates

A fire has reportedly broken out near a residential building in Plymouth. The incident is believed to have happened on Vauxhall Street near the Barcode.

All residents have been evacuated from the building. A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue has confirmed a vehicle is on fire in a nearby car park.

The spokesperson said two fire engines have been dispatched to the scene and are continuing to tackle the blaze. The vehicle is believed to be 50 per cent damaged but the flames are still not out.

A resident of a nearby building which was evacuated joked it was the “best bank holiday ever”. He added: “Looks like it’s a car on fire in the car park. Loads of firefighters, everyone’s been evacuated. Looe Street is completely blocked off.”
