Police: 2-year-old who was hit by a car at Christmas dies

GARNER, NC (AP) – A two-year-old boy died Tuesday after being hit by a car in Garner for Christmas, police said.

Garner police said the family was loading their vehicle on the hard shoulder of Woodland Road around 10 p.m. on Saturday when the boy ran into the street and was hit by a car, news outlets reported.

The boy was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh with life-threatening injuries and was later taken to the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, where he was in critical condition, officials said. As the police announced on Tuesday, the boy died as a result of his injuries.

The driver stayed on site and cooperated in the investigation, the police said.

The department will wait for their investigation to complete before reaching out to the Wake County Attorney’s Office to see if a criminal complaint will be filed.
