Police investigation into reports of car smashed outside Nottingham mosque

Police have charged a man after an officer was allegedly assaulted and the window of a car parked outside a mosque had been smashed.

It was reported that a police officer was kicked in the leg while carrying out an arrest at the Islamic Centre, in Curzon Street, Nottingham city centre.

Police were called to the scene after receiving reports on Thursday (March 3) that a man had smashed a window of a car in the car park.

Kamal Mahamad, 25, of St James’s Street, Nottingham city centre, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage in connection with the police investigation.

He has been remanded in police custody.

Detective Constable Natalie Hodges, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It’s been said before but acts of violence against emergency service workers are not part of the job and will not be tolerated.”
