The 15-year-old girl was raped in the car after being picked up by a stranger on the way home

The police are looking for a man who raped a teenage girl and then dropped her off to her house.

The 15-year-old had originally ridden to Monument Tube Station in Newcastle when trying to get home in the early hours of May 23rd.

She asked several strangers for directions back to their Cowgate estate before being approached by a man in a car between 1:15 a.m. and 2 a.m. near the Haymarket area, Chronicle Live reported.

The man who drove a dark car offered to take her away, the 15-year-old told police.

She accepted and the vehicle drove towards Cowgate before reports that the driver parked on a street in Blakelaw and raped her in the back seat.

He then dropped her off at her home address before leaving the area in the vehicle.

The victim then reported the incident to the police.

The police are appealing to anyone who spoke to the teenager to come forward

An investigation to identify the suspect is ongoing and specialist officers from the Northumbria Police Department’s security department are assisting the teenager and her family.

Now the detectives have asked everyone who could have spoken to the 15-year-old in the early morning hours of Sunday to report.

Detective Inspector Tanya Robinson said, “An investigation into this incident is well underway and we are continuing to provide the teenager with the support she needs.

“There is a number of active investigations going on, but we are still trying to identify some of the people the victim may have spoken to her before the suspect picked them up.

“In particular, we want to track down two women with Irish accents who took the teen off to the Haymarket to try to help her get home.

“We’d also love to hear from someone who saw a single teenage girl get into a black or darkened vehicle near the Haymarket between 1:15 am and 2:00 am on Sunday morning.

“Since our night inn was reopened, there has been a clearly visible police presence in the city center. If anyone has any concerns, we ask you to contact our officers.”

Anyone with information that could assist the police is asked to contact the officers through the Northumbria Police website or on 101 and quoting Protocol 153 dated 05/23/21.
