Top auto news from India this week: Skoda, Volkswagen on price increases, XUV700 wait, Tesla Model Y interior spied and more

We saw a slew of new spy footage this week, learned about price increases, and figured out the differences between the Kia Carens and the Hyundai Alcazar

This week we’ve heard on the auto news of price hikes awaiting us in the New Year, we’ve seen spy tapes of various test mules giving us an idea of what to expect, and delved deep into the XUV700’s waiting periods. Ohh, and we didn’t forget to put the Carens and Alcazar side by side (at least on paper) to see how they differ from each other.

Skoda and Volkswagen will also increase prices from January 2022

German automakers Skoda and Volkswagen are the youngest automakers to announce price increases starting in the new year. Skoda has not yet revealed how big the hike will be. Volkswagen, on the other hand, has announced that it will increase the price of its models by two to five percent. The recently introduced Volkswagen Tiguan is spared the hike. Other automakers have already announced similar increases in the face of rising manufacturing costs that they have passed on to customers.

A bunch of new test mules spied on

The MG Gloster was spotted in camouflage and it looks like the SUV is going to see minor modifications. We anticipate design changes will be the biggest difference in the updated SUV.

The facelifted Hyundai Venue has also been spotted and we took a good look at its rear. It looks like Hyundai is making a major design overhaul in this area, with new LED taillights being the most noticeable change. The front end could get a new grille as well and we could see it come to India sometime in August 2022.

Kia has also started preparing the Seltos for a facelift. A test mule was spied in full camouflage (except for the roof), which means design details are kept under lock and key. A tweak to the bumpers, a new grille, revised headlights and taillights are expected along with minor changes to the cabin.

The current generation Mahindra Scorpio has also been spotted in camouflage, albeit only in the lower half of the car. This means Mahindra could continue to offer the new Scorpio alongside the older car (with a minor update).

Another car that was spied on was the Toyota Hilux, even though it had no camouflage on it. The Hilux was spotted while filming a TV commercial, suggesting its launch might be imminent.

Tesla’s Model Y was also spotted in India without any disguise. While there was no official word from Tesla, the ever-increasing sighting of its cars in India could only mean one thing: Tesla is nearing entry into the Indian market.

After all, the upcoming Alto 2022 was spied once again. The car was heavily camouflaged, but you can easily see references to the older generation car, especially on the front. The new Alto is expected to be part of a series of new releases from Maruti in 2022.
