One man is dead, another is in the hospital and a murder investigation was opened after the car was run on the victims
Surrey Police have confirmed that a murder investigation has opened following today’s Walton incident. Here is the full statement from the troop:
We are appealing to witnesses following an altercation in Walton-on-Thames this afternoon (April 22nd) that unfortunately left one man dead and another seriously injured in the hospital.
Police were called to Church Street at around 2:15 p.m. after it was reported that a clash between a group of men had taken place.
One of the men then got into his car, a white BMW 1 Series, and is said to have hit two of the other men in the group.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of paramedics, a man in his forties was pronounced dead at the scene. His family was informed. A second man was flown to the hospital but is said to be recovering.
The owner of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The police are currently not looking for anyone related to this incident.
The officers are conducting a series of investigations to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
There is a barrier behind the Marks and Spencer store and the parking lot is closed, although the store remains open.
We respectfully ask you to avoid this area if possible while we process further inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Springett said, “We understand that a serious incident like this has caused great concern in the local community and we want to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to determine what happened.
“Our initial research suggests that there was an altercation that resulted in a physical confrontation that resulted in one of the group getting into his car and assaulting two of the other men.
“Tragically, this has resulted in the death of one man and seriously injured another. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
DCI Springett continued, “To assist the investigation, I would like to report anyone who has information, particularly anyone who witnessed the incident or who has cell phone or dashcam material, using Incident Reference PR / P21083894 . “
