A green John Deere tractor and a silver VW Polo at the junction with the B9127, Whigstreet-Carmyllie Road, near Lochlair, were involved in the accident.
The road remained closed for most of the day but reopened at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
Sergeant Ewan Pearce of the Scottish Police Road Unit said: “Tragically, a woman lost her life as a result of this collision and our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
“We ask everyone who saw the vehicles immediately before the collision – especially the Polo on the B9128 and the tractor on the B9127 – or witnessed the accident to report and speak to the officers.
“The tractor had a spray trailer attached and we would ask anyone who recorded with a dash cam on site this morning to check their footage and provide us with anything important as soon as possible.
“Those with information should contact the Scottish Police on 101 and quote incident number 0716, July 28, 2021.”
