Young child is hit by car as police cordon off the street in the city center

A young child was hit by a car tonight, sparking a huge emergency services presence in Liverpool city center.

The police will remain on site tonight after being called to the site of the serious accident at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9th.

The accident happened on Duke Street and involved a VW Golf and a young child. The age of the child has not yet been determined.

Up to four police cars remain in use and officials have cordoned off a section of the inner city street.

The North West Ambulance Service took the child to the hospital for an examination.

The police confirmed that the driver of the VW Golf had stopped on site to cooperate with the officers.

A Merseyside police spokesman said: “We can confirm that following a serious collision in traffic tonight, the 9th of May.

“At 8 p.m., we received a report of a collision on Duke Street in which a VW Golf crashed into a young child.

“The child was taken to the hospital for an examination. The driver stopped to help with the investigation.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information, CCTV, or dashcam is encouraged to contact @MerPolCC or 101 with reference 2100404008.”
