According to the Peel Regional Police, one person was dead and two others injured after a car accident on Saturday morning.
The first collision involved two vehicles, one going west on Sandalwood Parkway and the other going south on Hurontario Street, according to Duty Insp. Stephen Duivesteyn of the Peel Regional Police.
The impact at 5 a.m. was so severe that both cars came off the lane.
One landed in a parking lot at a gas station, said Duivesteyn, while the other came across a traffic light, which then overturned.
He said a third vehicle that passed the intersection was unable to escape the “heavy” debris in the lane, resulting in a subsequent accident.
One person died and two more were brought in for treatment.
One person was taken to a nearby hospital and another to a trauma center.
Duivesteyn said a person fled the scene and was later arrested for impairing driving.
Investigators remain on site on Saturday afternoon.
