Appeal for masked men with guns in broad daylight

DETECTIVES are appealing to witnesses as the investigation into a disruption incident in which a car was attacked continues.

Kirklees CID wishes to speak to anyone who witnessed or has information about the incident on Westbourne Road in the Huddersfield Marsh yesterday afternoon (Saturday May 8th) involving three men.

After a full investigation into the scene and subsequent investigation, officials have now ruled out a suggestion that a gun may have been fired, West Yorkshire police said.

A spokesman said: “Police were called to Westbourne Road at around 2:11 pm to report that a group of three masked men had attacked a dark orange Peugeot 3008 with bladed weapons.

“The car pulled away from the scene and the suspects fled, with two walking and one getting into a taxi.

“They were described as young men and were masked and dressed in dark clothing.”

Detective Inspector Jeanette Yates of Kirklees CID said, “This was clearly a serious incident and technical officials have conducted a number of investigations.

“We have now established that no weapon was fired in the incident itself, and after further investigation we know that the victims in the car did not suffer any serious injuries.

“Behavior as we’ve seen is clearly unacceptable on our streets, and I would ask anyone with information that could help us catch those responsible to contact Kirklee’s CID on 101, which points to the Police Protocol 831 of May 8th.

“Information can also be shared online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk.101livechat or anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers Charity on 0800 555 111.”
