The 33-year-old cyclist was killed after the driver lost control of the car in Montreal – Montreal

A 33-year-old cyclist has died after being hit by a car in the Plateau-Mont-Royal district on Thursday morning.

Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant said the driver had lost control of the vehicle for reasons that remain unexplained.

The driver met the cyclist and witnesses told police the vehicle had overturned at the intersection of Papineau Avenue and St-Joseph Boulevard.

Firefighters at the scene of the crime had to remove the 33-year-old driver from the car. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

A security area has been set up in the area and an investigation is ongoing.

Brabant said investigators and collision experts are trying to piece together what happened.

“We’re going to try to see if the vehicle is accelerating, which was the maneuver that made the driver lose control, so all of these questions can be looked into by investigators,” he said.

“They’ll be looking at security cameras when they are available to give us a better idea.”

The police have not ruled out that the driver may have experienced a medical emergency.

The driver remained in critical condition on Thursday afternoon.
